Category 1 - Carnatic Bala Saamrat

  1. Age Limit: Maximum 12 years. No Minimum age.
  2. This is an individual category which can have solo / duet performances.
  3. Maximum time limit for Preliminary round: 5 minutes, allotted time for final recital: 10 minutes for each participant.
  4. It is up to the participants to showcase their talent with their choice of songs. There will be no questions or interference from the judges. However, judges may assist the participant with pitch and talam if required.
  5. Vocalists will be tested for Sa-Pa-Sa sustenance.
  6. Instrumentalists will be tested for the maximum “Sa ri ga ma pa da ni sa” rendition in 1 minute.
  7. Percussionists will be tested on the ability to play adi thalam or any thalam of their choice. To perform basic exercises and optional thani avarthanam in the finals.
  8. Participants competing for “category awards” will render only songs from (i)geetham – also includes swarajathi &nottuswarams (ii)varnam – also includes pada varnams and (iii)krithis without manodharmam. Participants can take part in any or all of the categories by paying registration fee for each category / sub category they are willing to contest. Each of these categories will be judged and awarded prizes separately.
  9. Participants competing for title – “Carnatic Bala Saamrat” award, have an option to render manodharmam. However, finalists may also be tested for swara gnyanam based on exercises from Janta varisais, alankarams and basic swara exercise patterns and not kalpanaswarams.
  10. Regional level winners will be competing at the National level for the title.
  11. The finalists will however have an option to render manodharmam.
  12. Only exceptional gifted prodigies may be recognized by the judges to compete in the global level and may be given global visibility.
  13. Regional winners will be awarded attractive prizes. All participants get a medal and certificate.

Category 2 – Carnatic Yuva Saamrat Junior

  1. Age Limit: Junior: 13 - 19 years
  2. This is an individual category which can have solo / duet performances.
  3. Maximum time limit for Preliminary round: 8 minutes.
  4. To compete for category awards, the participants of Carnatic Yuva Saamrat – Junior (13-19 years) will render only songs from (i)geetham – also includes swarajathi &nottuswarams (ii)varnam – also includes pada varnams and (iii)krithis without manodharmam.. However, participants competing for title awards, have an option to render manodharmam. Participants can take part in any or all of the categories by paying registration fee for each category / sub category they are willing to contest. Each of these categories will be judged and awarded prizes separately.
  5. Carnatic Yuva Saamrat – Senior (20-30 years)’ is a performing category only.
  6. Participants have to present any Carnatic compositions of their choice. Instrumentalists are free to express their best music uninterrupted with in the allotted time limit.
  7. Sa-Pa-Sa sustenance will be tested.
  8. Instrumentalists will be tested for the maximum “Sa ri ga ma pa da ni sa” rendition in 1 minute.
  9. If the instrument is violin, participants can participate as accompanying or general category. Ability to accompany vocal / any other instrument will be tested in the accompanying category.
  10. Percussion can participate as accompanying or general category. If accompanying category, participants must play thani avarthanam, should have the ability to tell jathi, konakkol and ability to accompany a song. If general, participants will be tested on basic exercises and thani avarthanam.
  11. Regional level winners to compete at National levels. All national level winners from across the globe compete in India for the ultimate title.
  12. There will be 24 participants selected to compete nationwide and top 8-12 participants will be selected from pre finals to compete in the finals.
  13. Finalists should be prepared to present a mini-kutcheri for 20 minutes.
  14. Grand finale participants should be prepared to perform a 60 minutes concert in India in front of a galaxy of celebrity musicians, leading gurus, leading sabha secretaries, media and organizers to compete for the ultimate title.
  15. Regional winners will be awarded attractive prizes. All participants get a medal and certificate.
